In the center of the Historic District? In Lido? On the outskirts? What is the best area to stay? And the quality / price ratio? Here we go…
Four Views Monumental Hotel, located in the heart of Lido
If I had to choose a place to stay in Funchal after our experience, the truth is that I would definitely decide between one of these two areas: Lido or the Historic Center.
In the next few days I will tell you about The Vine Hotel (there is the REVIEW) that sheltered us the last nights on the island, but today we go to the heart of Lido.
Lido is the most important tourist area of Funchal. Here one can find numerous attractions such as restaurants, bars, a very lively boardwalk (that we saw the first day upon arrival), shopping centers and is very close to both the historic center, privileged locations that host restaurants of the type Doca de Cacavas for a special dinner or the pools of Lido and Ponta Gorda with access to the sea (remember that Madeira does not have great beaches).
Arriving from Funchal Airportand more specifically to the area of Lido (also valid for the Historic Center locations) does not take even 30 minutes, and is done by a motorway enabled and exit 9 direction "Funchal / Hospital / Porto" (If you want to have your own car you have a detailed article in).
The studios of the Four Views Monumental Hotel
Although the Four Views Monumental Lido It has many room types (overlooking the sea, the mountains, apartments, ...) it is possible that your studios, where we are staying, are one of the most complete options.
I would mainly highlight the ample spaces and the warmth of its decoration, with a first room that makes bedroom proper, with a desk, two beds attached with bedside tables in modern style, space for suitcases / backpacks and a large closet.
A great drawback, for those who love technology, or simply for those who need internet for their stay, is that despite having a large desk ready to use a laptop, the WIFI signal hardly reaches the room. If we add to this that during our stay the connection did NOT work for two days, someone can stop reading.
If what you are looking for is disconnection, then we continue down the hall until the so-called "kitchenette", where a fully equipped kitchen with a plate with electric burners, microwave, toaster, dishes, cutlery, refrigerator and laundry, give you the option of this savings that we all look for complemented by a multitude of supermarkets near the hotel.
In this room, in addition to a small table to eat, the chairs are housed, flat TV (the truth is that I did not turn on to know what type of channels it has) and some other small sofa in a square.
The lucky owners of the mobile internet (and those who want to have a quiet beer) that fascinated us was the terrace. Here I "retired" at night to write my stories for a while, and I am sure that those who love reading or simply tranquility, will be the area to which they will give more use.
Of the bath Little to review. Spacious, well equipped (dryer, gels, plugs ...), clean and correct.
The common areas of the Four Views Monumental Hotel
From the moment you enter by reception, the treatment is friendly and cordial. He lobby It has a small library and large sofas where you can go down to connect to the internet (here if WIFI arrives), read or wait for your tour to come and get you if you come on that plan.
But without a doubt, it is on the last floor where all the activity takes place. and where is the swimming pool, surrounded by more than enough hammocks at different heights.
At the time we went (March), around 18'00 that difference in height makes the pool go into shadow. For us it was not really important but it is something to consider for those who like the sun. !! We had time for that little bath post-flights!
The Four Views Monumental Lido Hotel also has gym, sauna (for a fee), jacuzzi (for a fee), Turkish bath (for a fee), Roman bath (for a fee), hairdresser, TV lounge, game room, meeting and conference rooms, laundry and even care service of young children.
He breakfast It is also done in the facilities of its upper floor (there are even tables enabled in the pool to enjoy the first rays of sun). Personally I missed nothing. There were juices, pastries, milk, coffee, fruit, assorted bread, yogurts, bacon, eggs, sausages, butter, jam, cold cuts and dozens of other dishes. To put a catch, perhaps at rush hour too many people gathered and it was difficult to find an empty and already clean table.
Some things that I liked are those small details that involve large investments and we all appreciate, such as having free water in the room, free parking (although it was not necessary in our case if for all those who take a rental car -very recommendable-), have a bus to the center very close (less than € 1 if you take the bonus) and good views of Lido.
Do you hit The main one is the WIFI and the pasotism of the receptionists to solve it. At older, perhaps the pool is too small at "rush hour", that the SPA treatments it has are VERY expensive and that those who come with full board do not speak very well of meals and dinners (but having all the restaurants that Lido has I would definitely recommend not taking meals at the hotel).
Would we recommend it?
To answer this question, the variable "price". The most basic rooms, with sea views, can be around 60-65 € / night. From those prices, and up to € 95-100 of the studio, and € 125-130 of the apartment, there are several options available. There are also many active promotions with considerable discounts!Check availability and prices here for the Four Views Monumental Lido Hotel
Considering all this, the Keys leave it to the taste of the consumer, considering the importance of having WIFI in any accommodation in the XXI century.
